Maudlin Strangers Sign to Vagrant, Debut Overdose EP to be Released January 20th
We are very excited to welcome Maudlin Strangers to the Vagrant family! Formed in 2010, Maudlin Strangers is the project of Agoura Hills, CA native Jake Hays.
Recorded in Hays’ bedroom, the debut Overdose EP started as an “opportunity to play each instrument,” says Hays. “Live, I only get to play guitar and sing, so the recording process is my outlet to write and play different instruments.” What can only be described as dark-indie-rock, the 4-track EP combines somber lyricis masked by light, upbeat melodies. Hays not only writes all the music, but he designs all the band’s artwork as well. “ The EP is just an expression of all the thoughts in my weird, restless mind,” Hays laughs. The result is an ambient yet catchy body of work with hints of MuteMath and even Pink Floyd strewn throughout. Track list and artwork can be found below.
Overdose EP will be available nationwide on January 20, 2015. Today, stream a new track off the EP, ‘AIM’ via Indie Shuffle. Maudlin Strangers will be touring the US with Bad Suns and Coasts starting January 24. Click HERE for all upcoming dates.

Rolling Stone Premieres Letts’ New Song “Emeralds,” Hold Fast Now Available for Pre-Order
Letts’ new song “Emeralds” premieres today via Rolling Stone! “Emeralds” comes from Letts’ forthcoming album, Hold Fast, produced by friend and collaborator Marcus Mumford. The debut LP will be released on February 17, 2015, on Community Music/Vagrant and is now available for pre-order on iTunes with instant downloads of “Emeralds,” “Matches,” and “Charles de Gaulle.”
About the recording process, Marcus Mumford noted, “it wasn't as different as I thought it was going to be because we're always involved in the production of our records. It just felt like being in the studio with your friends – which we do all the time.” Letts recalled the completely idyllic sessions, “We were surrounded by some of the most beautiful souls I have ever known. The most scenic and inspiring countryside, better than I could ever paint or imagine. A huge sense of love and trust.”
London-born Christian Letts returned to his native countryside to record Hold Fast. Other friends from their respective bands (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons) joined them at the farm, where, over the course of two consecutive Januaries, they crafted the ten tracks that comprise the album. The release will coincide with a series of art exhibits of Letts’ paintings and watercolors throughout the United States and Europe.

CRUISR Premiere New Animated Video for "All Over"
CRUISR have just debuted their new video for "All Over"! Check out the premiere via Buzzfeed or watch below. Through animated clips, the video brings the song's theme of love/hate relationships to life by remaking legendary scenes from iconic films of both past and present. Directed by Chris Carboni (Adult Swim) the video walks the line between lovers and enemies.
"A lot of the fun came in finding the right balance of love and chaos to represent sucha volatile relationship," Carboni tells Buzzfeed. "I knew I wanted to echo the idea of constantly cycling back and forth between these two extremes by having continuous transitions (no cuts) which resulted in a lot of work on both the design and animation end. Every shot had to be constructed to blend into the next."
"All Over" is the title track from CRUISR's new EP, available now on iTunes and Spotify. The guys are currently on tour directly supporting The 1975 across the country. Click HERE for all upcoming dates.
