Wake Owl Announce Debut Album The Private World of Paradise Out March 4, 2014
Wake Owl will release their debut album The Private World of Paradise, produced by Richard Swift (Tennis, Foxygen), on March 4th, 2014! An early taste of the upcoming LP debuted online today in the form of first single “Candy,” which premiered on The Music Ninja and can be streamed HERE or below. “Candy” is also now available as a digital single on iTunes.
Recorded with notable producer Swift in his National Freedom studios in Oregon, The Private World of Paradise finds Wake Owl expanding beyond the evocative folk found on debut EP Wild Country, released in January 2013. “Candy” exhibits Wake Owl primary member and singer Colyn Cameron’s growth as a songwriter and pursuit of experimentation with different instrumentation. Working together with multi-instrumentalist Aiden Briscall and Swift, the result is the upbeat atmospheric vibe found throughout the album. “There’s a lot more room in this batch of songs to explore live,” says Cameron. “This was a goal of ours from the outset of writing, trying to create space, so that live we could take people on more of a journey. The music is very visual for us, so there will be a strong visual element in the live set.”
Wake Owl will head out on a Canadian tour in February and March, click HERE for all dates. US dates and more information on The Private World of Paradise will be announced soon.

Wake Owl Reveals Track Listing and Artwork for Wild Country EP, Now Available for Pre-Order
Wake Owl's debut EP Wild Country, out January 29th, 2013, is now available for pre-order via iTunes! The new single "Gold" – featured in the climactic final minutes of last week’s episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy – is currently available as a digital single on iTunes and Amazon, and recently hit the #1 spot on Hype Machine’s Most Popular Tracks chart.
The six tracks on the Wild Country EP introduce Wake Owl – led by primary member and singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron – as a unique, reflective new voice. The soul-searching songs range from the evocative title track’s poignant mix of pedal steel, violin, and brushed drums, to the buoyant drive of the rising “You’ll Never Go.” The haunting hushed-to-triumphant build of single “Gold” gives way to the bright cadence of the sing-along worthy “Grow”, before the moody atmosphere of wistful “Seaside” closes out the EP. Shepherded by Cameron’s softly rasped, reedy vocals, Wild Country paints a lush, broad musical landscape that’s at once personal and universal, intimate yet accessible. A full track listing and cover artwork can be seen below.
Wake Owl began with Cameron, who started writing songs around age 16. The Vancouver by way of Southern California native (he currently splits his time between Vancouver and Portland, OR) traversed the world in his late teens and early 20s, including two years studying organic agriculture at Emerson College in England, and working on farms throughout the UK, Germany, Chile, and Canada. His vast travels acted as a songwriting catalyst: after returning home to British Columbia and spending a brief period playing in other bands, Cameron began creating and recording his own songs as Wake Owl. Now also comprised of multi-instrumentalist Aiden Briscall and additional supporting players, the band has toured Canada supporting Bahamas, Zeus, and The Jezabels, and has played a number of their own US shows.
